BIG IDEA... HOW IT all STARTED.. History of Mobile Detailing and Mobile Car Care

NOTICED a great show on CNBC.... The Big Idea . . Here is one success and how it started. An entire new Industry began in 1991.

BILL SWISHER invented the MOBILE DETAILING industry.... WAY BEFORE anyone thought of it. This concept is to provide car washing and Detailing and waxing at home and at work.,...... using his own Electric and Water brought in a Mobile Unit. Instead of Running through a crowded and unsafe Car Wash, MOBILE CAR CARE, came up with the idea to make this service convenient for the average busy customer. Additionally, the service had to be competitive and convenient. It was not only both, it was novel and in high demand. The success of this service caused Bill Swisher to expand by Affordable Franchising so that a person can run the business on his or her own and make a good living. That not only happened also, but many operators bought several units and made a "real good living". Swisher mentioned that he decided to franchise because he didn't want to hire employees and run the company that way.
Started in 1991, after a leap of faith in leaving USAIR, Swisher never thought the company would be this large with Sales just in Franchises of $120 Million a year. Each mobile units sales are about $80,000 with $50,000 net income and currently there are Franchises throughout the US.

Currently, Mobile Car Care, is centralizing 13 offices in the East to just two Mega centers where the Franchises are being built and sold. The Eastern center is under construction in Lake Mary, Florida near the Sanford-Orlando Airport. The new home office and Western HQ is almost complete in Thousand Oaks, CA just 20 miles NW of Los Angeles. With these 2 new offices, Mobile Car Care will add 3000 more Franchises in 3 years.

Started with $4,000 and no less than 8 "No's by Banks for a loan, the Mobile Car Care concept has matured into Multi Millions in Revenue in 2001 but more importantly the "formula" of Development has allowed Swisher to enter other Franchises. Even though he has not invention these businesses, he has "sophisticated" these concepts and controls the market of each Category.
They include:

1. Mobile Auto Doctor.... Mobile vehicle repairs at work and home

2. Mobile Pet Care...... Ditto for pets

3. Mobile Geek....... Mobile Computer care and advise at home and office

4. Mobile Handyman.... super handyman services that all love, especially Seniors.

5. Mobile Franchises..... now controls all the Franchises.

HOW IT ALL STARTED:
Back in January 1991, Bill Swisher left USAir Airlines in a leap of faith to start Mobile Car Care when the entire State of Florida was under severe Water Restrictions. Since, Swisher couldn't detail cars and wash cars at his house or even a business, he just figured he needed Water, Electric and a Trailer to make himself truly Mobile. No one, anywhere had figured that you can carry a large Water tank, 5000Watt Generator, or a Pressure Sprayer in a mobile unit. He put everything together and it was such a hit, even the Water District was happy since it was a System immune to restrictions. Since water usage was only allowed after 8pm, he just filled the water tank then and was operational for the day. No one else could wash and detail cars but him. Then after attending a NASCAR race in Daytona Beach, his home office, he noticed that the only Race car he could easily read was the TEXACO Havoline Race car with the bright RED-Orange letters. So he relabeled his mobile unit to the Black vehicle and Red Florescent letters and EVERYONE saw it as he drove. Word of mouth and loyal and pleased Customers got him more customers. Swisher's first unit made $20 his first week washing 2 cars. Then with visibility and customer referrals Sales jumped to $800 a week and with a capacity situation, sales leveled off at $1500 to 2000 per week. Within 6 weeks, Swisher never looked back.

Franchising came when people stopped him and wanted to "work" for him. He told them that it was a one man operation but since he has a surplus of customers already, he decided to build mobile units for people who passed his Owner Test. But now with Federal Trade Commission Laws strong, Swisher had to do his filings to sell Mobile Car Care as a Franchise.

Then with those Franchises succeeding, it became a growth and continued innovation mode. There is no national competition and the only competition is the fly by night operators who come and go. The Franchise concept with Mobile Car Care has done wonders making it superior to anyone attempting to compete. Franchise shows and other marketing has accelerated.

Also, Swisher is now buying Banks to fund the Franchises internally. The Traditional Banks are a horror to lenders so Swisher filled the need of financing this way. So things are getting bigger and better for Swisher. Currently, sales and deliveries of franchised units are on hold for 40 days until the expansion to Orlando and Los Angeles is complete.
